Course Name: Programmable Logic Control (PLC)
Course Description:
This course covers the operation, application, basic capabilities, functional features, specifications, troubleshooting procedures and preventive maintenance of a programmable logic controller (PLC). In this course, the participant develops an appreciation of machine and process control and the many advantages of a PLC compared to conventional control systems. Emphasis is given to the actual hook-up of the PLC to common electrical and electro-pneumatic devices such as lamps, relays, contactors, solenoid valves, directional valves and cylinders. This introductory course to PLC prepares the participants in the programming, installation and maintenance of automation systems and their application programs. It introduces the participant to the Siemens S7 1200 PLC hardware and Totally Integrated Automation (TIA) software and will build skills on programming, installation, commissioning, and fault diagnostics, and PROFINET communications network. It also provides programming techniques and instructions that will help the participants in configuring S7 1200 PLC. Intensive programming and wiring the PLC exercises will build the skills of the participants.
Course Objectives:
Upon completion of the module, the participants must be able to:
- Distinguish a PLC control system from other types of industrial control systems.
- Describe the hardware and software aspect of a common PLC
- Interpret PLC specification.
- Operate and program a PLC.
- Simulate and test program circuits.
- Apply troubleshooting techniques and preventive maintenance for a PLC.
